Just returned from 10 nights at this wonderful, friendly hotel. When we left we felt like old friends of owner Paulo and his beautiful wife Carmen.
We arrived tired and stressed (and horribly pale) from our busy lives in London and the peace and tranquillity of Casas do Coro was the perfect antidote.
Ok, firstly the surrounding area is beautiful and unspoilt and is a must for bird lovers. The village of Marialva is small and very quiet and not touristy despite visitors to the historic castle.
The apartments are tastefully and opulently decorated, the staff helpful and unassuming. Breakfasts were a complete delight with lots of choice and at a sensible time (from 8.30am - 10.30am).
We had dinner a few times and while it is quite expensive, you do get 4 courses and wine so I don’t think it's unreasonable.
There were lovely touches, every afternoon, just when the heat of the day was getting to us - a complimentary refreshing drink would arrive, either home made lemonade or melon juice.
If you are after a lively, action packed resort then this place is not for you. We travelled with my 2 children aged 8 and 10 and whilst they enjoyed the pool they probably would've preferred a slightly livelier place. As for us parents it was exactly what we wanted and we were very sorry to leave. We are planning to go back next year.

We stayed in Casas do Côro with our baby, and we were not sure if that would be a good idea. Our fears made no sense, because we found out that the team was very thoughtful, the owners and relatives love children and they were extremely caring and very pleasant.
Marialva is an ancient village with a castle situated in the north of Portugal. Both the village and the hotel have old stone houses, but Casas do Côro are way much more comfortable. The hotel is well designed and decorated with good taste. It is a place to relax and to explore, near some wine estates and fascinating cave engravings.
Breakfast was the highlight here with several types of local cheese, smoked ham, sausages and so on. The dinner was also good, yet expensive. Our house had a well-equipped kitchen.
No doubt that we would recommend Casas do Côro!
